Dan Hernandez is an undergraduate student at San Francisco State University, majoring in photojournalism and business administration. Currently, he is an intern at the San Francisco Chronicle working on daily visual journalism and special projects as part of the visuals team. He also makes photos for the Storied: SF Podcast. Previously he served as the visuals editor for the Golden Gate Xpress.
He has won awards for his work in journalism by the College Media Association, Best of SNO and the Journalism Association of Community Colleges.
Outside of journalism, he is probably on a mountain camping in his Subaru, playing water polo, riding transit for fun or roaming around San Francisco.
He is the former teenage editor-in-chief of The Advocate newspaper at Contra Costa College. At 15 years old, he got his start in journalism working on writing, photography and design until graduating high school in 2021.
Dan is a member of the National Press Photographers Association and NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists.
